101.2 ORGANIZATION OF THE DISTRICT
I. SCHOOL OPEN TO LOCAL RESIDENTS
The Nevis Public Schools are maintained for all children who reside within the district and those students who opt to attend on open enrollment.
II. NON-RESIDENT PUPILS
Pupils whose parents/guardians are not residents of the district may attend Nevis schools as approved by the school board/superintendent only after enrollment options forms have been submitted, and the class still has room.
When grade levels reach these numbers, the class will be closed to open enrollment students. Pre-K ~ 40; K-3 ~ 42; 4-6 ~ 46; 7-12 ~ 50.
III. LEGAL AGE OF STUDENTS (see Early Entrance Policy 533)
No pupil may be enrolled in Kindergarten whose fifth birthday does not occur on or before the first day of September of the school year during which the child registers to enter school, or as may be otherwise set by state statutes. Any pupil whose sixth birthday occurs on or before the first day of September of the present school year shall be enrolled in school as required by law.
IV. COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Nevis Public School is deeply committed to community education and will seek all means of continuing to help it grow and serve the people of the district.
V. ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOLS
The district will consist of the following organizational units as the standard types of programs to offer instruction:

Nevis Early Childhood at Nevis, Minnesota, comprised of children ages 3 through 5.

Nevis Elementary School at Nevis, Minnesota, comprising of grades K through 6.

Nevis High School at Nevis, Minnesota, comprising of grades 7 through 12.

Nevis Alternative Learning Program at Nevis, Minnesota can comprise of grades 9 through 12.
VI. BOUNDARY LINES FOR ATTENDANCE CENTERS
Attendance areas for pupils, established by the board shall be observed:

Pupils in grades K through 6 living within the boundaries of the district shall attend the elementary school at Nevis.

Pupils in grades 7 through 12 living within the district shall attend the high school at Nevis.
VII. PUPIL'S RESIDENCE
Pupil's residence as to attendance areas shall be based on resident of parent/guardian. In the case of divorced parents with joint custody, parents will designate the district of residence.
VII. GRADE LEVEL ADVANCEMENT
Students will be allowed to advance a grade level if there has been appropriate (as determined by the principal) assessment of a student's skill level and aptitude which would indicate the student's capabilities. Written parental approval is also required. The cost of the assessment will be the parent's responsibility.
